PATIENT SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY- IGBOBI HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT

Patient-Centeredness is one of the core values of National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos and the Hospital Management is committed to the provision of efficient and effective services within the available resources.
While the Hospital Management makes concerted efforts to cater to the needs of all stakeholders, the economic challenge being currently experienced in the country hinders the provision of accommodation for patients’ relatives.
Being the foremost and largest Orthopaedic and Trauma Centre in Nigeria, it is germane to state that the Hospital receives referrals from various health facilities from across the Country. Thus, the issue of accommodation for patients’ relations especially those residing outside Lagos State but could not afford the accommodation bills around the Hospital community is a major concern to the Hospital Management.
Some of the patients’ relatives may be found loitering the Hospital premises till night so as to be within the reach of their loved ones who are receiving treatment in the Hospital.
While the Hospital’s health professionals are providing care for the patients, the Hospital recognizes the psychological and cultural roles family members play towards patient’s quick recovery.
This concern led to the construction of Two (2) patients’ relations waiting sheds by the Hospital equipped with television sets. This privilege was however abused by relatives of some patients as issues such as fighting, stealing and sexual molestation were reported to the Hospital Management. These incidents posed a security threat to the Hospital.
Currently, those patients’ relations sleeping along walkways within the Hospital premises are doing so despite being discouraged by the Management.
It worthy of note that globally, provision of accommodation for patients’ relations is not the core responsibility of Hospitals and healthcare providers. Rather, the major responsibility of the providers is the provision of quality healthcare and engendering of patient safety.
As a responsible Government Health Institution saddled with the mandate to provide Orthopaedics, Trauma and Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical services to Nigerians, the Hospital Management has been working assiduously to get Non-Governmental Organizations, Philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to support the ongoing infrastructural developments targeted at enhancing the quality of services being provided by the Hospital.
The Hospital hereby reassures the general public and her esteemed clients of its conviction to be guided by its vision and core values among which patient-centredness hold a pride of place. To this end, the Management is making necessary efforts to provide accommodation for patients’ relations.
